Adelaide Hills Dementia Carers Support Group
The Adelaide Hills dementia carers support group is a self-organizing cluster of people with current or previous (‘after-carers’) experience as dementia carers, who meet socially for relaxation and to assist each other in sustaining mutual self-preservation. Carers are welcome to bring along those for whom they care.
We meet on the second Thursday of the month for an evening meal and on the fourth Thursday for lunch. Venues are chosen from hotels and restaurants in the local hills area and announced ahead of time by email (bookings are required in these Covid times). People come to either or both events as they can. Attendees are generally drawn from locations roughly from East Torrens to Strathalbyn, and from Stirling to Mount Barker, although anyone is welcome.
New attendees are always welcome and readily made to feel at home. Caring for someone with dementia is a unique and demanding task. It is good to meet with others who share a similar lived experience.
