Indian Dementia support group launched

Dementia Support Group for Indian Australians Inc was launched on Friday 27 October 2017 at the Consulate General of India, Sydney premises at 265 Castlereagh Street, Sydney. A forum on Dementia was conducted  at the Consulate and Dementia Support Group for Indian Australian Inc. in collaboration with the Federation of Indian Associations of NSW Inc held this Dementia Forum.

The Consul General of India in Sydney, Mr B. Vanlalvawna hosted the event and opened the event with his heart felt speech on the need for creating awareness for dementia. The Hon. David Clarke, Member of the Legislative Council and Parliamentary Secretary for Justice, as a Guest of Honour, in his speech spoke eloquently about the rising numbers of people living with dementia and need for support for carers; Mrs Reena Jethi Councillor of Hills Shire Council, was also a Guest of Honour, she, in her speech spoke about the much needed support for families caring for their loved ones with dementia.

The forum was attended by distinguished VIP guests: Prof Nihal Agar, Chairman of Hindu Council of Australia; Ms Mary Karras, Chief Executive officer of Ethnic Communities’ Council of NSW (ECC); Board members of ECC, Rob Critchlow, Superintendent, The Hills Local Area Command; other VIP guests, distinguished community leaders, various media partners and community members.
