Queensland State Archives Memory Lounge opens

A new dementia-friendly space at QSA was opened by Ms Sandra Nugent, Dementia Australia Regional Director of Western Australia and Queensland, this morning. The Memory Lounge is a unique lounge area in our Reading Room which provides a comfortable and welcoming space for everyone, including furnishings selected to create a dementia-friendly environment.  Visitors are welcome to relax and browse through photo albums and films from QSA’s collection, evoking memories of the State’s history. Staff have also completed dementia awareness training to gain an understanding of the needs of people living with dementia. The Memory Lounge is a free and public space open now but with bookings for groups commencing in 2019. Queensland State Archives is now recognised as a Dementia-Friendly organisation by Dementia Australia.
